Responsible Business
With access to water becoming increasingly scarce in our region, we aim to run our business in a responsible manner, with policies built around a greener future for the next generation. Our leather is sourced from LWG Gold-rated tanneries, the highest environmental rating awarded by the Leather Working Group, which independently audits tanneries on their water, energy and chemical management.
From our workshop floor to our packaging, we keep looking for practical ways to reduce waste and to use materials more carefully in everything we make, every day.
Furthermore, we place special emphasis on the people of Tharparkar, located in Sindh, Pakistan, where 5% of our revenue goes towards our project of digging wells and improving access to clean water. By building responsible practices into our business and supporting the communities around us, we hope to elevate the quality of life of the people living in the region, one well at a time.
FABRIC
Our care for materials runs deep in our linings as well. Most of our pieces are lined in soft, pure cotton that complements the leather exterior, while some styles use other premium linings chosen to suit their design. Every lining is selected to feel as good as it looks, protecting your belongings inside and out.
LEATHER (Our Star Attraction)
Our leather comes from LWG Gold-rated tanneries, chosen for their high working standards.
Leather is our star attraction, the very foundation on which our company stands. Obi Pelle works with full-grain, vegetable-tanned and other premium leathers, selecting each hide for its quality and character and working it into many forms and finishes, so every piece has the right leather for its purpose.
Our range of leathers gives us the confidence to deliver premium leather goods to our customers, crafted with precise attention to detail. On our full-grain pieces, we are adamant about preserving the leather in its most natural form, never sanding down the surface and choosing to show the natural grain, along with the small marks that make each hide unique.
Obi Pelle prefers to work with full-grain leather. What is full-grain leather, you might ask? It is the top layer of the hide, kept with its natural grain fully intact. It is the strongest and most characterful grade of leather you can buy, with an exquisite touch. It also ages gracefully; it develops a rich patina over time, telling the story of its unique journey.
HARDWARE
We aim for perfection every step of the way. From the moment materials arrive at our workshop until the finished piece is delivered, we pay close attention to every detail. Just like our leather, we are passionate about using superior components in our products. Our hardware is made from brass, in finishes such as gold-tone, nickel and antique, chosen to complement each leather and give every piece a refined look. Our leather goods are fitted with YKK and other quality zips, which are neat, smooth and durable, allowing easy access to your belongings inside and out. Every buckle, ring and zip is checked before it is fitted, because small components take the most wear over the years. Good hardware should last as long as the leather around it, and that is the standard we set for every single piece we make.
PACKAGING
Our packaging is made with the same care as our products. Rather than leaving your leather piece unprotected, we place every item in a cloth dust bag made from recycled fabric. The dust bag guards your leather against dust, scratches and sunlight when it is not in use, and keeps it looking its best between journeys. We recommend storing your piece in its dust bag whenever you are not carrying it, so the leather stays protected and continues to age beautifully over the years to come.
